"Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can."
-John Wesley

The Johnson County Cluster of Churches raised up over 5000 cans and boxes of food items to make a dent in the needs of needy people in Johnson Country through the Interchurch Food Pantry in Franklin
With John Wesley’s credo in mind to “do all the good you can”… the six churches of the JO CO Cluster (Greenwood-Honey Creek UMC, Greenwood UMC, Greenwood-Mt Auburn UMC, Greenwood-Smith Valley UMC, Whiteland UMC and Franklin-Grace UMC) committed to raising up as much food as possible for the Interchurch food pantry with a drive that began on Martin Luther King, Jr. Sunday January 17 and culminated on the first Sunday of Lent February 21. Each church was asked to focus their food collection efforts on one particular food item: Honey Creek-Tuna, Grace-Jelly, Mt Auburn-Beef Stew, Smith Valley-Mashed Potatoes, Greenwood-Pork & Beans, Whiteland-Spaghetti O’s.
The efforts of all the churches came to fruition when over 250 people gathered at Mt Auburn for a Concert of prayer and celebration of the giving of over 5000 cans and boxes of food for the Johnson County Interchurch Food Pantry. At the Concert of Prayer each church presented their gifts of food for the Interchurch Food Pantry offered up prayers for our community and shared praise music, which ranged from folk to classical to contemporary all celebrating the goodness of God’s presence in the community.
The director of the Interchurch food pantry, LaTheda Noonan, (a Whiteland UMC member), eloquently presented the profound need for food assistance in the community and shared the emotion of the stories of actual people served by the ministry of the Interchurch food pantry. It was evident that the events of the Concert of Prayer for the food pantry were moving and motivating to all who were a part of “doing all the good they can.”
It was announced at The Concert of Prayer that the JO CO Cluster will have a community evangelistic effort with a tent at the Johnson County Fair in July. Furthermore, it was announced that the JO CO Cluster has committed to build a Habitat for Humanity home in Greenwood in 2011. In support of this effort the JO CO Cluster will have a fall festival September 28 where each church will raise money for the Habitat for Humanity project and celebrate with music, food and a “concert of prayer.’
