Metro Ministries Connecting Resources

Lisa Morris, Metro Ministries Executive Director, reported at the Central District Conference that over the past seven years, over 40 ministries were supported with Metro Ministries ministry grants. Thousands of children and youth have been touched by the love of Jesus, received healthy meals, and learned how to serve in their neighborhoods.

We have connected together with ministries that are serving the elderly, others serving internationally then coming back to central Indiana to volunteer locally, and connected with resourcing non profit boards that will help with volunteer recruitment and financial stability. We have connected more than 20 United Methodist Churches on seven Habitat for Humanity builds in Central Indiana the past seven years.

Stay tuned to learn  how our district together is serving in outreach by reading our enews letter Metro Monday Connection. An announcement will be coming out soon on our process for youth and children grants.

We are looking forward to sharing more stories. Chance is a 4 year boy attending the SHERIDAN Lunch club. His grandparents care for him and brings him to the lunch club for a healthy meal. When Chance first came into the church he was very shy.  The lunch club is a family community. The children eat, play games and receive a book from the book giveaway table. Chance is now a leader in his little play group of little children. He and his grandparents have received more than a meal but have become a part of the community.

Thank you for partnering with Metro. I look forward serving with each of you in the district this year.

Strengths in Ministry at East Tenth UMC How Can You Help?

East Tenth United Methodist Church is a small congregation at 2327 East Tenth Street that provides a weekly Sunday evening meal for their community. This ministry is a long-time outreach of the congregation which has served 60-80 persons weekly for more than 20 years. It has become something folks expect and they are very glad for the reliability East Tenth has provided, but we can do more together.

Their needs are for a group to provide the items for the meal, prepare, serve and help with clean up. There is someone from the church there to help with the process.

Contact Tammy King, at tammy.king@east10th.org, 317-636-9017.

Read more on how you can make this happen?

  • There are three women from East Tenth that provide the meal the 4th Sunday each month.
  • Epworth UMC provides the meal the 2nd Sunday of each month.
  • Avon UMC provides fruit salary and brownies every other month
  • St. Luke’s UMC prepares and served three times a year.

Their needs are for a group to provide the items for the meal, prepare, serve and help with clean up. There is someone from the church there to help with the process.
