Grant Recipients and Their Stories
Brightwood Community Center

Metro Ministries Board of Directors chose Brightwood Community Center as one of its 2017 Youth and Children Grant recipients so that more than 30 children would have a safe place to learn and grow during the summer. Many of the children not only build confident but also builds value of themselves. In order for them to become leaders of integrity, children must feel they have something valuable to offer.

Brightwood Community Center is striving to build the necessary confidence and skillsets for children to become world leaders for Christ.

They receive support from many United Methodist Churches serving meals and to help chaperone field trips. Approximately 70% of the children will participate in the after school program and other community programs. Some of the children who reside in the community attend schools outside the community due to low school rankings.

Brookside Scholarships Awarded 2018

Members of the former Brookside United Methodist Church have provided opportunities to students that have decided to further their education to receive support through their Legacy endowment established when the church closed in 2008. The scholarship fund was established with the United Methodist Foundation of Indiana to be distributed annually by Metro Ministries to qualified candidates for a scholarship to a post-secondary school.

Felicia Renteria
Scholarship Recipient

Felicia Renteria is a sophomore at Indiana State University.  This is Felicia’s second scholarship from the Brookside legacy. We met Felicia last year as an incoming freshman at Indiana State University.  She is majoring in Psychology and her goal is to own her own business as a therapist or social worker. Felicia has followed up with Lisa Morris, Metro Ministries Executive Director, during the year as she completed her freshman year at Indiana State University expressing how blessed she was to experience the love of our church family.  Her recent email following the announcement she shared, “Thank you so much for the email and opportunity! I'm so thankful for you all!”

Britney Bailey
Scholarship Recipient

Britney Bailey is a 2018 graduate of Pike High School and an incoming freshman at Purdue University. She was referred to us through Outreach Inc. an east side organization whose mission is “Equipping and empowering homeless teens and young adults to achieve stability and life transformation.” Britney’s reaction to our scholarship announcement was, “Wow, thank you all so much! This is such a blessing. I cannot express how thankful I am!”
