Grant Recipients and Their Stories
Shelbyville Trinity UMC Outreach

The Trinity UMC Outreach includes an outwardly focused Vacation Bible School that focused on "Fight the Good Fight" with equipping youth to be prepared with the Word of God as a foundation for overcoming the struggles of life. They received Biblical instruction in daily Bible Classes.  The children received further teaching on discipline and self-control in working with the horse ministry during evening session, and they received physical nourishment with a healthy meal.

The Spotted Horse Ministries comes to Shelbyville from Terre Haute and provide horse riding lessons and instruction regarding connections between training and disciplining horses with training and developing spiritual disciplines.

Most of the 160 children come from the community and are not a part of the congregation. Many come back year after year, and as they get older they begin assisting in serving the younger participants alongside adult ministry leaders.

Brookside Scholarships Awarded 2018

Members of the former Brookside United Methodist Church have provided opportunities to students that have decided to further their education to receive support through their Legacy endowment established when the church closed in 2008. The scholarship fund was established with the United Methodist Foundation of Indiana to be distributed annually by Metro Ministries to qualified candidates for a scholarship to a post-secondary school.

Felicia Renteria
Scholarship Recipient

Felicia Renteria is a sophomore at Indiana State University.  This is Felicia’s second scholarship from the Brookside legacy. We met Felicia last year as an incoming freshman at Indiana State University.  She is majoring in Psychology and her goal is to own her own business as a therapist or social worker. Felicia has followed up with Lisa Morris, Metro Ministries Executive Director, during the year as she completed her freshman year at Indiana State University expressing how blessed she was to experience the love of our church family.  Her recent email following the announcement she shared, “Thank you so much for the email and opportunity! I'm so thankful for you all!”

Britney Bailey
Scholarship Recipient

Britney Bailey is a 2018 graduate of Pike High School and an incoming freshman at Purdue University. She was referred to us through Outreach Inc. an east side organization whose mission is “Equipping and empowering homeless teens and young adults to achieve stability and life transformation.” Britney’s reaction to our scholarship announcement was, “Wow, thank you all so much! This is such a blessing. I cannot express how thankful I am!”
