North UMC Engage! Summer Youth Employment
The North UMC program for youth employment asks teenagers to work for six weeks to improve the community in which they live, but also to be transformed by their ability to work together as a team, to learn about each other, to learn about their God-given gifts and learn how to overcome fear and frustration through their faith and God-given spirit of perservance.

The Summer Youth Employment program is geared towards developing skills of professionalism, communication, confidence, and understanding of vocation.  The North UMC is strongly equipped to provide this program. Many of the parishioners have work experience as therapists, former cleary, and human resource managers -- all careers with skill sets that lend themselves to listenning, developing and empowering people.

Brookside Scholarships Awarded 2018

Members of the former Brookside United Methodist Church have provided opportunities to students that have decided to further their education to receive support through their Legacy endowment established when the church closed in 2008. The scholarship fund was established with the United Methodist Foundation of Indiana to be distributed annually by Metro Ministries to qualified candidates for a scholarship to a post-secondary school.

Felicia Renteria
Scholarship Recipient

Felicia Renteria is a sophomore at Indiana State University.  This is Felicia’s second scholarship from the Brookside legacy. We met Felicia last year as an incoming freshman at Indiana State University.  She is majoring in Psychology and her goal is to own her own business as a therapist or social worker. Felicia has followed up with Lisa Morris, Metro Ministries Executive Director, during the year as she completed her freshman year at Indiana State University expressing how blessed she was to experience the love of our church family.  Her recent email following the announcement she shared, “Thank you so much for the email and opportunity! I'm so thankful for you all!”

Britney Bailey
Scholarship Recipient

Britney Bailey is a 2018 graduate of Pike High School and an incoming freshman at Purdue University. She was referred to us through Outreach Inc. an east side organization whose mission is “Equipping and empowering homeless teens and young adults to achieve stability and life transformation.” Britney’s reaction to our scholarship announcement was, “Wow, thank you all so much! This is such a blessing. I cannot express how thankful I am!”
