Grant Recipients and Their Stories
Vida Nueva Ministries Descubriendo Indy 2017

The Vida Nueva youth program works with children who are at risk, providing them with experiences and activities which they may otherwise never experience. The children in their camp come from families who face many and varied challenges. These may be monetary, they may be polical, they may be linquistic or cultural.

The camp embraces these immigrant families and strives to provide a place where the children can experience worthwhile and potentially life changing engagements, field trips, actiities and social interactions which are crafted to fit with their unique circumstances such as a trip to a college or a museum.

The Vida Nueva congregation believes that there is no dream too big or high -- the sky is the limit for these children, and they feel that this camp lays a foundation for them to shart those exciting life journeys.

Brookside Scholarships Awarded 2018

Members of the former Brookside United Methodist Church have provided opportunities to students that have decided to further their education to receive support through their Legacy endowment established when the church closed in 2008. The scholarship fund was established with the United Methodist Foundation of Indiana to be distributed annually by Metro Ministries to qualified candidates for a scholarship to a post-secondary school.

Felicia Renteria
Scholarship Recipient

Felicia Renteria is a sophomore at Indiana State University.  This is Felicia’s second scholarship from the Brookside legacy. We met Felicia last year as an incoming freshman at Indiana State University.  She is majoring in Psychology and her goal is to own her own business as a therapist or social worker. Felicia has followed up with Lisa Morris, Metro Ministries Executive Director, during the year as she completed her freshman year at Indiana State University expressing how blessed she was to experience the love of our church family.  Her recent email following the announcement she shared, “Thank you so much for the email and opportunity! I'm so thankful for you all!”

Britney Bailey
Scholarship Recipient

Britney Bailey is a 2018 graduate of Pike High School and an incoming freshman at Purdue University. She was referred to us through Outreach Inc. an east side organization whose mission is “Equipping and empowering homeless teens and young adults to achieve stability and life transformation.” Britney’s reaction to our scholarship announcement was, “Wow, thank you all so much! This is such a blessing. I cannot express how thankful I am!”
