Barnes UMC Missional Food Pantry Community Extended Services

Barnes UMC works to extend the relational services offered to the church's community, especially the individuals and families served by their You Feed Them missional food pantry. This year Barnes UMC is planning the second annual Community Day on August 10, 2019. Community Day 2019 will not only provide backpacks and school supplies to children and youth and homeless blessing bags for those facing homeless, they are also working to extend the number of service providers available that day.

Barnes UMC expects to serve between 200 and 250 men, women and children during Community Day. The pantry leadership and staff are also making plans for internet connectivity and available laptops for use both on Community Day as well as on an ongoing basis for individuals served by the pantry.

Brookside Scholarships Awarded 2018

Members of the former Brookside United Methodist Church have provided opportunities to students that have decided to further their education to receive support through their Legacy endowment established when the church closed in 2008. The scholarship fund was established with the United Methodist Foundation of Indiana to be distributed annually by Metro Ministries to qualified candidates for a scholarship to a post-secondary school.

Felicia Renteria
Scholarship Recipient

Felicia Renteria is a sophomore at Indiana State University. This is Felicia’s second scholarship from the Brookside legacy. We met Felicia last year as an incoming freshman at Indiana State University. She is majoring in Psychology, and her goal is to own her own business as a therapist or social worker. Felicia has followed up with Lisa Morris, Metro Ministries Executive Director, during the year as she completed her freshman year at Indiana State University. Felicia expressed how blessed she was to experience the love of our church family. Following the annoucement, she shared in her recent email, “Thank you so much for the email and opportunity! I'm so thankful for you all!”

Britney Bailey
Scholarship Recipient

Britney Bailey is a 2018 graduate of Pike High School and an incoming freshman at Purdue University. She was referred to us through Outreach Inc., an east-side organization whose mission is “Equipping and empowering homeless teens and young adults to achieve stability and life transformation.” Britney’s reaction to our scholarship announcement was, “Wow, thank you all so much! This is such a blessing. I cannot express how thankful I am!”
