University UMC Feed My Sheep Pantry Launch

University UMC took a step out in faith this year to work with Faith, Hope and Love Community to launch Feed My Sheep missional food pantry. The pantry's mission is to collaborate with a newtwork of missional food banks in the Indianapolis area to help alleviate hunger.

Through the pantry volunteer staff, University UMC will offer support to the under-resourced in their community, not only by providing food, but also by demonstrating that people care and will continue to help them meet their needs.

The church plans to include education on cookng and eating healthy and introduce participants to agencies that can help with things like employment and housing. The vision of Feed My Sheep is to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ by feeding the body and soul of everyone who enters the pantry, to offer those in need opportunities to receive physical, emotional and spiritual support while demonstrating  a path to a sustainable future.

Brookside Scholarships Awarded 2018

Members of the former Brookside United Methodist Church have provided opportunities to students that have decided to further their education to receive support through their Legacy endowment established when the church closed in 2008. The scholarship fund was established with the United Methodist Foundation of Indiana to be distributed annually by Metro Ministries to qualified candidates for a scholarship to a post-secondary school.

Felicia Renteria
Scholarship Recipient

Felicia Renteria is a sophomore at Indiana State University. This is Felicia’s second scholarship from the Brookside legacy. We met Felicia last year as an incoming freshman at Indiana State University. She is majoring in Psychology, and her goal is to own her own business as a therapist or social worker. Felicia has followed up with Lisa Morris, Metro Ministries Executive Director, during the year as she completed her freshman year at Indiana State University. Felicia expressed how blessed she was to experience the love of our church family. Following the annoucement, she shared in her recent email, “Thank you so much for the email and opportunity! I'm so thankful for you all!”

Britney Bailey
Scholarship Recipient

Britney Bailey is a 2018 graduate of Pike High School and an incoming freshman at Purdue University. She was referred to us through Outreach Inc., an east-side organization whose mission is “Equipping and empowering homeless teens and young adults to achieve stability and life transformation.” Britney’s reaction to our scholarship announcement was, “Wow, thank you all so much! This is such a blessing. I cannot express how thankful I am!”
