Sheridan First UMC Lunch Club

Sheridan First UMC will be serving hot nutritious meals Monday through Friday during the 10 weeks of summer. They offer a "safe place" for the kids to meet with their friends, where they are offered crafts, activities and a free book to take home each day. At the conclusion of Lunch Club program, the church offers a Back to School Bash with free haircuts and school supplies.

The mission of Sheridan First UMC'S Lunch Club is to reach out in love to neighbors in the midst of their needs and let others know they are there to help, nurture and care for the community members and their children. The change that Sheridan First UMC seeks and hopes for is that no man, woman or child goes hungry for love, attention, or nourishment of their body in Sheridan. They hope their neighbors will feel the love and concern for them and their children and consider the church a resource when seeking assistance for their needs.  They hope to be that catalyst of change that the Sheridan community needs.

Brookside Scholarships Awarded 2018

Members of the former Brookside United Methodist Church have provided opportunities to students that have decided to further their education to receive support through their Legacy endowment established when the church closed in 2008. The scholarship fund was established with the United Methodist Foundation of Indiana to be distributed annually by Metro Ministries to qualified candidates for a scholarship to a post-secondary school.

Felicia Renteria
Scholarship Recipient

Felicia Renteria is a sophomore at Indiana State University. This is Felicia’s second scholarship from the Brookside legacy. We met Felicia last year as an incoming freshman at Indiana State University. She is majoring in Psychology, and her goal is to own her own business as a therapist or social worker. Felicia has followed up with Lisa Morris, Metro Ministries Executive Director, during the year as she completed her freshman year at Indiana State University. Felicia expressed how blessed she was to experience the love of our church family. Following the annoucement, she shared in her recent email, “Thank you so much for the email and opportunity! I'm so thankful for you all!”

Britney Bailey
Scholarship Recipient

Britney Bailey is a 2018 graduate of Pike High School and an incoming freshman at Purdue University. She was referred to us through Outreach Inc., an east-side organization whose mission is “Equipping and empowering homeless teens and young adults to achieve stability and life transformation.” Britney’s reaction to our scholarship announcement was, “Wow, thank you all so much! This is such a blessing. I cannot express how thankful I am!”
