Roberts Park UMC Soups On - Let's Connect to Local Missions

I visited Roberts Park Soups On, Sunday, October 24, 2011 where I partnered with the Calvary UMC, Brownsburg volunteers who were at the church at 9 a.m. preparing to serve more than 200 men and women a hot meal.  Roberts Park has a team of cooks that prepare the food.  There are regular volunteers that come every week that share their expertise and teach us "newbies."  Roberts Park Soups On

I served food -- meeting and greeting the guests -- with a smile and a good afternoon.  Their faces showed their gratitude for a hot meal.  I accepted many thank you's, even though I didn't cook or prepare the delicious food.  Many of the persons attended worship with me at the Roberts Park UMC 10:30 a.m. worship service.

The Roberts Park UMC Soups On program is a Central District Advance Special.  This means that churches may receive credit through the United Methodist Church for their giving to this project.  There are many United Methodist Churches like Calvary Brownsburg that have connected with Soups On throughout their years of ministry.  The need continues to be within the downtown community for the Sunday morning meal that is served.

How can you connect?  You may donate money  through the District Advance Special Giving Form.  You may bring a team of volunteers by contacting Rev. Cyndi Alte

Items are always appreciated such as: paper towels, large trash bags, and salt and pepper shakers, A complete list can be obtained through Cyndi.

Reaching out to the Community in Sheridan

garden sheridanSheridan First United Methodist Church Kid's Lunch Club touches the lives of children, youth and adults building a connection with the community.

The Kid's Lunch Club was started five years ago and averaged 7 children a day  receiving a healthy lunch during the summer break.  This summer Metro Ministries, Inc. supported this program with a summer youth grant for the third year.

The program averages 126 children, youth, and adults each day from when school is out to when school is back in session.  Added to the healthy meals are opportunities to sing, listen to stories, and build a butterfly garden outside of the church building.
