Who We Are
BOD-MarshaPetry
Marsha Petry
Board Member

Marsha Petry joined Metro's Board in 2021. As a life-long United Methodist member, Marsha has enjoyed serving quite a few churches in several states.  Among her favorite opportunities are teaching Sunday School to any age, writing and implementing extra programing for children, and serving on committees for her home churches and districts.  In her current church home, Irvington United Methodist, Marsha has spent ten years enjoying teaching Sunday School, attending book and bible studies, and serving on many committees from Nurturing to Staff Parish.  She is also the current Lay Leader, a role she very much treasures.

Marsha grew up in Northwest Mississippi.  She earned her Bachelor of Science (Library Science) from Mississippi State.  She enjoyed being a librarian for 17 years.  Then she acknowledged a calling to ministry.  She then attended Scarritt College and studied theology.  That lead her into an interest in working with the United Methodist Neighborhood Centers of Memphis where she served as the Director of a childcare center.  As things evolved, she and her husband took on the role of Lead House Parents at a United Methodist Boys Home.  Since moving to Indiana she found herself quite happy as a preschool teacher for University Heights United Methodist Church.  She happily took the two-year certification course for Early Childhood Education when the state required.  She was with UHUMC for 16 years.  She has enjoyed four mission trips, two in South Dakota and two in Guatemala.

Marsha has learned how much she loves working with people, speaking to groups, leading groups, as well as developing and implementing programing.  She also enjoys a trait she inherited from her father - storytelling.  She’s even dressed as Mrs. Claus and spent hours telling stories to groups of families!  She draws her inspiration from her love from her family.  She and her husband enjoy their children and grandchildren as often as possible.  As an SEC family, Saturdays involve seeing whose team won, the family lovingly cheers for three different teams.  Family members all enjoy reading, playing games and completing puzzles.  There is always a new recipe to be tried and shared and then plan how to make it better, just another family game!
