2017 Youth Grants Announced
Metro Ministries Connecting with Youth

 

Metro Ministries, Inc.  grant recipients this year are local churches and communities that engage with youth on projects that train youth to become passionate and well-informed leaders with the practice of service. The outwardly-focused programs support youth and children with art, leadership development, employment, recreational, reading readiness, developing spiritual gifts, confidence, healthy meals, and are providing safe environments in their communities. 

Brightwood Community Center SPARKS Youth Program goal is to raise the reading scores of their students during their 4 week program June 26-July 21, 2017. They will provide up to 40 students, ages 5-15, a daily program of academic readiness learning time, field trips, swimming, healthy lunches and snacks.

Castleton UMC SHARE-LT is partnering with Peace Learning Center May 30-June 1 and will continue using what they learn during their summer, fall and spring breaks. Up to 50 students ages 12-18 will participate creating space for teens to flourish. Their vision is to keep the teens safe and engaged.

Lawrence UMC Youth Corps prepares middle school students through 9th grade an opportunity to take the light of Jesus into their community. There will be 25 students that have interviewed to be a part of the youth corps, plan to be a part of learning to become strong leaders in their community through work and service projects.

Lawrence UMC Summer Kids Camp provides an all day program for 60 students ages 5-13 June 5-August 5, 2017.  They will develop students potential through learning activities. The students will daily receive opportunity to choose their activities based on their interests and gifts. Field trips, healthy foods, and academic learning opportunities are highlights of their day.

North UMC Engage Summer Youth Employment project is giving 20 students ages 13-16 an opportunity to be employed this summer. Their vision is to give their youth from their community and neighborhood to receive space to learn. 

Trinity UMC, Shelbyville VBS Outreach trains and equips more than 160 students -- potty trained and up in ages as they reach their community with outreach during the week of July 17-July 23. Their mission is making disciples of Jesus Christ.

Vida Nueva Ministries Descubriendo Indy 2017 gives first generation Hispanic families opportunities to expereience the love and hope of Christ. They will learn about themselves and about Indy through traveling throughout Indianapolis exploring and discovering their world around them.
